Physical Science

Grades 9-12
Tess Doornink, Instuctor

This one-credit high school physical science course presents introductory material focusing on the physics of motion and mechanics, heat, waves, sound, light and introductory chemistry concepts.    Students will be required to complete reading,  homework questions and exercises, worksheets, and most exams at home.  Students will review difficult material in class through lectures, quizzes, demonstrations,  and discussions   Students should plan to spend between 45-60 minutes a day, 4 days a week, on science.  Parents should be ready and willing to provide oversight for their individual student’s daily progress on assignments. They should also review ALL graded work with their students and regularly monitor their student’s grades.  Visit Sound Learning’s general course requirements for more information. Grades are posted online and are updated weekly at Schoology, our online learning platform. After finishing the course, students will have a better understanding of science, and a college-bound student will have a good foundation for more rigorous physics and chemistry courses.

Grades will be based on chapter exams, quizzes, homework, and participation in class. Students need to have at least a 70% grade for the fall semester to continue into the spring semester.images
