Grades 9-12
Instructor: Denise Kowalski

Class Overview: This one year, two semester course explores practical knowledge of 2-D and 3-D figures, analytical reasoning about geometric relationships, and proof construction.  Logical thinking is the heart of this course.   Daily video instruction is available to the student to augment the text instruction.  This class also features regular review of Algebra I concepts.

Transformations, triangles, and theorems will roll around in your dreams as you delve into the world of Euclidean geometry.  This class also features regular review of Algebra I concepts.  It also features daily video instruction to go with each lesson.

Student Expectations: Students are expected to participate in class, complete and correct assignments, complete exams at home, and complete weekly quizzes. Answers to homework are posted on Schoology so the student can correct their own work.  If you cannot figure out how you missed a problem, you need to ask for help and not let it slide by. Skype is effective for working out geometry problems and my preferred way to help. I Skype with students regularly.    Math is a daily thing.  If you cannot make time for geometry class Tuesday-Friday, this is not the class for you.  Working throughout the week rather than a weekend marathon ensures success.   Plan on spending 60 minutes/day outside of class, Tuesday-Friday, on Geometry.  I use pop quizzes via Schoology as my main tool to make sure you are current with your assignments.

Parent Involvement:
Parents need to do the following:
-Provide oversight for their student’s daily progress on assignments.
-Review  work with their students and regularly monitor their student’s grades.
-Issue final letter grades. At the end of each semester, parents and students are given a summary of all scores on chapter exams, quizzes, homework, and participation in class.

1.    Students must have reliable internet service with email access, a printer and scanner.
2.    Students must have completed Algebra I with a B or better.
3.    Students must have time to work on Geometry Tuesday-Friday, every day.
4.   All students must have the multiplications tables memorized through 12s.
5.   Students must be faithful in correcting their work to ensure mastery.
